Banned Islamic militant group Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) is involved with the murder of Japanese national Hoshi Kunio, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Rangpur range) Humayun Kabir has said.
The police official made the statement in a press briefing at his office on Tuesday afternoon.
He said: "JMB leader Rana was arrested from Pirgacha in connection with Hoshi murder. He gave confessional statement before a court on Monday that he had shot the Japanese citizen."
The arrested JMB leader also disclosed how they planned and killed Hoshi Kunio, said the DIG.

Kunio Hoshi, 65, was gunned down in broad daylight by unidentified miscreants in Kachu Alutari area of Kawnia upazila in the district during on his way to his farm on October 3.
The two suspects - local BNP leader Habibunnabi Khan Shohel's brother Rashidunnabi Khan Biplob and businessman Humayun Kabir Hira who was trade partner of Hoshi – were placed on 10-day remand.
On October 13, the body of murdered Japanese citizen Kunio Hoshi was buried in a graveyard in the city of Rangpur.
