18.65kg gold seized at Dhaka airport

Customs Intelligence officials have seized 160 gold bars, weighing 18.65kg, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

The gold bars were seized from a flight of Malaysian Airlines on Monday night.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Director General Dr Moinul Khan said: “The gold bars kept inside two seats of an aircraft of Malaysian Airlines. They were seized from the aircraft after it arrived at the airport from Malaysia around 9:30pm.

“The bars weigh 116.06 grams each. The estimated price of the gold is Tk9 crore.”

However, no one was detained in this connection.

He said the passengers manifest confirmed that no tickets were issued for the two seats.
