An Awami League councillor candidate and his wife were injured in an attack at their house in Chapainawabganj early yesterday.
Abdul Khaleq Milon said it was a terrorist attack and the attackers took away 26 bhoris of gold ornaments and Tk50,000 in cash.
Milon lives in north Bhabanipur of Chapainawabganj municipality area and will contest the upcoming polls from Ward 1.
Police said five to six men broke into Milon’s house, and attacked him and his wife Nasrin Khatun.
Milon, who sustained a fracture in his head, was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Wares Ali Miah, assistant superintendent of police in Chapainawabganj, said it was not clear if the attacked was linked to Milon’s candidacy in the elections.
“We are looking into the matter but no case has yet been lodged,” he added.
