Dhaka Comicon 2015 is going “Beyond Borders” with the inclusion of international cosplayers taking part in the three-day-long event. This year, Comicon has a bunch of exhilarating experiences in store for the regular goers.
Right at the top of the list is the extensive merchandise. Straight from Diamond distributors, the merchandise is authentic and of top quality. From T-shirts to action figures to miscellaneous collectibles - there’s something for everyone. On top of that, they will have a section that will be specifically concentrating on giving the attendees an augmented reality experience. They will also be allocating an artist’s corner where artists will line up for live sketches and caricatures.
Themed exhibitions
They will be featuring themed exhibitions by Star Wars from the Dhaka Museum of Toys and Saadi’s Collectibles.
Showcase your artwork
Along with cosplaying, Comicon Beyond Borders 2015 will give people the opportunity to demonstrate their talent. Interested participants can register and send pictures of action figures to later be displayed at the show. Moreover, art enthusiasts will be able to make submissions according to the yearly theme. Dhaka Tribune had an exclusive conversation with Syed Abu Yousuf, managing director of Jarvis and co-founder of Dhaka Comicon.
What are your expectations for this year’s DCC?
Dhaka Comicon has grown exponentially each year, both in terms of attendance and content. We expect a massive turnout this year as well because of what we’re providing and how we’ve been promoting it. In general, Bangladeshis are more knowledgeable about Comic Cons now. They look forward to the international events and they also look forward to DCC in the same vein.
Apart from international guests, what new experiences should people look forward to?
The experience that Dhaka Comicon goers will be getting from the international contingent this year will be the first of its kind. In addition to that, we will be having our cosplay competition taking place on stage, a bunch of talented musicians to enthrall the audience throughout the day, a toy museum, comic book and cosplay workshops, DC and Marvel merchandise from international distributors, tonnes of merchandise from our vendors and the overall festive atmosphere at Jamuna Future Park to add to the festivities! There’s much more, but I’ll leave that for the attendees to find out.
What do you think will make this year’s comic con a success?
One of the reasons why we’ve stood out each year is because we’ve been giving our attendees a different experience each time. With that in mind we’re also aware that they would be expecting a lot more this time as well. Like every year, the presence of all artists, cosplayers, attendees and vendors are what have made Dhaka Comicon a successful event to look forward to each year. Moreover, the presence of our international contingent definitely gives us an added flavour and an edge over others. Lastly, it's never easy hosting an event of such magnitude without the help of sponsors which is why we would like to thank our main sponsor Bikroy.com.
