An eight-year-old girl was killed in her sleep when a fire engulfed her house in Chittagong’s Sitakunda upazila Thursday night.
Two grocery shops were also gutted in the fire, said fire service sources.
The dead Sanjida Begum, was daughter of Badsha Mia of Madham Sonaichari area of Shitalpur union, said Kumira Fire Station Senior Officer Md Abdullah Harun Pasa.
The body was handed over to the police, added the official.
Abdullah said Sanjida’s parents had went outside locking the tin-shed house, leaving the sleeping girl at home. He said the fire had ignited from a mosquito coil around 9:30pm.
The official said fire fighters reached the spot around 11:30pm after being informed and recovered the body of the girl from the debris.
