Update : 02 Dec 2015, 06:27 PM

International Finance Corporation (IFC) is going to launch a campaign to promote solar energy in Bangladesh.

The campaign, which will begin from December 6 and continue for one year, will cover about 6,000 to 8,000 villages across the country, said Muhammad Taif Ul Islam, programme manager of Lighting Asia Bangladesh chapter.

He said, “Under the campaign programme, we are planning to sell half a million solar products by 2017.”

Lighting Asia Bangladesh chapter was inaugurated October last year. Six private companies will display their solar products in the campaign, said Taif.

He said price range of the solar products would be in between Tk700 and Tk21,000.

“The lowest solar product with the equipment to light a single bulb will cost you Tk700,” he added.

Citing statistics, he said, “It needs an amount of kerosene worth Tk10 to light a lamp and monthly Tk300 for a household.” “If a household buys one solar product worth Tk700, he will get his return within three months,” he added.
