A suspected has been killed in a “gunfight” with the law enforcers in Rohomotpur area of Jessore district.
The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained yet.
Kotwali police station OC Shikdar Akkas Ali said: “A gang of seven to eight robbers were preparing for a robbery in the areas around 3:30am Wednesday. Sensing the presence of the police, the robbers opened fire at them.”
In retaliation, police fired back that left one of the robbers bullet wounded. Meanwhile, the others managed to flee the scene.
Later, he was declared dead by the duty doctor when taken to Jessore Medical College Hospital.
The OC said three policemen, including SI Tofael, were injured in the incident.
Police recovered a shutter-gun, a round of bullets and rope from the spot.
