A devastating fire has engulfed a plastic mat factory in Gazirchat area in Ashulia.

The fire soon spread into the whole factory although locals and the workers initially tried in vain to control the fire with water from nearby ponds.

A total of five fire units from Ashulia DEPZ and Dhamrai rushed to the spot and they finally managed to douse the blaze after about two hours of frantic efforts.

Hitech Plastic Factory's Managing Director Abdur Rahim alleged that the fire enabled to engulf the whole factory owing to delay arrival of the fire fighters despite to have conveyed the accident instantly.

Abdul Hamid, station officer of Ashulia DEPZ Fire Service and Civil Defence, denied the accusation of Abdur Rahim, telling narrow road to the factory caused the delay though they reached the spot within short time.

The damage caused by the fire could not be ascertained immediately.
