Faroque murder: Escaped policeman sent to jail

Former sub-inspector Rezaul Karim Patuari, who escaped from the prison cell of a Dhaka court on Sunday, has been sent to jail.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Masud Sheikh passed the order on Monday afternoon, rejecting the bail petition filed by Rezaul's lawyer Shahadat Hossain.

Kotwali police produced him before the court and sought the court's order to send him to jail.

The former sub-inspector of Kafrul police station was arrested in the morning.

Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Court's prison cell In-Charge SI Mofakkharul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that the lawyer of the accused policeman took him to Kotwali police station for surrender on Monday morning.

"He was shown arrested in the case filed on Sunday after he fled while being escorted to a police van," Mofakkharul said.

On Sunday, the court framed charges against the policeman, Rezaul Karim Patuari, a former sub-inspector at Kafrul police station, together with former sub-inspector Md Nuruzzaman and local police informer Md Ratan Babu, for the murder of sub-contractor Faroque Hossain Kamal in the capital’s Kafrul area.
