Using social media with alternative means after the government imposed block on that is a violation of the law, State Minister for Post and Telecommunications Tarana Halim has said.
While talking to the media at the secretariat on Sunday afternoon, the state minister said the social media, including Facebook, will be unblocked as soon as soon as Home Ministry will take the decision regarding this.
She said whenever the Home Ministry will feel it safe, we will then to unblock the social networks.
She also said people who are using social media with the alternative means, they need to be careful that it is high likely their ID could be hacked.
Earlier in the day, she said blocking Facebook helped foil sabotage plans.
“We were able to foil many plans of sabotage by blocking Facebook. If you want, you can talk to the Home Ministry regarding it.
“They will be able to give you details regarding those subversive activities we managed to avoid,” she said.
On November 18, citing security reasons, the government blocked Facebook and online messaging services WhatsApp and Viber until further notice.
