Police and locals suspect that religious extremists who are against Shias might have launched the attack to create panic. On October 24, miscreants believed to be members of Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) launched grenade attacks on a Shia procession in Dhaka’s Hussaini Dalan killing two persons.

One of the three injured from the Bogra attack, Aftab Ali, 42, was released from hospital on Friday. Two others – imam Shahinur Islam, 35, and Abu Taher, 70, are undergoing treatment at Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra.

Vice-Principal Dr Rezaul Alam Jewel said they had pulled out bullet from Taher’s thigh while Shahinur’s surgery on the waist might be conducted on Thursday.

Officials of the Police Bureau of Investigation have collected blood and other evidence from the spot. They also found eight bullet shells of 0.22 bore revolver.

Additional Superintendent of Police Arifur Rahman Mandal said that there had been no progress in the investigation. He hoped that they would get some clue from the detainees during interrogation.
