Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is planning to cap the daily recharge amount for a single mobile number in order to prevent illegal calls overseas.
The regulator is seriously considering to implement this proposal, which has already been given a thumbs up by the high-ups of the Telecommunications Division.
Industry insiders said illegal international calls cause revenue losses for both the mobile operators and the government, as well as the International Gateway (IGW) and Interconnection Exchange (ICX) operators.
An official of a mobile operator said all owners implemented a robust system to detect and bar suspected illegal calls, so there is no need to implement another system.
