Khaleda will not attend Thursday's hearing

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will not attend the hearings of Zia Charitable and Zia Orphanage Trust corruption cases scheduled to be held on Thursday.

Confirming the news Khaleda's lawyer Sanaullah Mia told the Dhaka Tribune: “She will not attend Thursday's hearings in two graft cases due to illness.”

Youth held for spreading IS propaganda

The police have detained a youth for allegedly spreading Islamic State (IS) propaganda on Facebook.

The detainee is Nahid Hossain.

Jamaat man held for threatening intellectuals with death

The members of Detective Branch of Police have arrested an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami for allegedly giving death threat to the noted intellectuals of the country.

The arrestee is Abdul Haque.

Wasfia completes Seven Summits

National Geographic Adventurer and Bangladesh’s youngest Everest summiteer Wasfia Nazreen has successfully reached the summit of Carstensz Pyramid, the highest peak of Australasia-Oceania.

She reached the summit of this Papuan territory on November 18 at 10:19am with her Indonesian friend Joshua Noya, thus becoming the first Bangladeshi to complete the Seven Summits record.

'Pakistan confirms SQ Chy, Mujahid were its agents'

Slamming her country's government for showing “high passion' for war criminals Salauddin and Mujahid, Pakistan’s top rights activist Asma Jahangir said the government was only confirming the fact that two men were “political agents.”

The human right activist was reacting to the response by the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan, expressing anguish and concern over the execution of BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhry and Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid.

UN rights body renews call for abolishing death penalty

The UN human rights body has renewed its call to the government of Bangladesh to immediately institute a moratorium on the death penalty and abolish it.

In a statement, spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Ravina Shamdasani said: “We renew our call on the government of Bangladesh to immediately institute a moratorium on the death penalty and abolish this inhuman practice altogether."

Missing Japanese citizen found dead, 3 held

Police have recovered the body of a missing Japanese citizen from Dhaka.

The identity of the deceased female could not be ascertained yet.

 

Action order against Jamaat controlled financial organisations

Ministry of Finance has asked the Bangladesh Bank authorities to go with necessary measures against the terrorism financing of Jamaat-Shibir controlled institutions, firms and NGOs.

The ministry's Bank and Financial Institutions Division sent a letter to Bangladesh Bank, financial institutions and insurance companies in this regard on Monday.

Turkey expresses sadness over execution

Turkey has expressed its sadness over the execution of war criminals Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujaheed and Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.

“We have learned with sadness that the death sentences given to Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujaheed, Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Party, and Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, former MP from Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and former Minister, by the Bangladesh International Crimes Tribunal have been carried out,” said a statement issued by the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
