Members of the Detective Branch of Police have detained a youth for allegedly spreading Islamic State (IS) propaganda on Facebook.
The detainee is Nahid Hossain, an honours student of Rahmatullah Degree College in Tongi and also a suspected supporter of Islami Chhatra Shibir, said DB Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam on Wednesday.
“Nahid was picked up from the capital's Badda area on Tuesday midnight. The DB members arrested him for circulating Islamic State propaganda by opening a Facebook page named al-Dawla al-Islamiya,” he told reporters.
"He also created a number of Facebook accounts including Jihadi John and Khalid-bin-Waleed for conducting propaganda in favour of the IS through internet," added the official.
Further investigation is underway and next steps against the arrestee would be taken as per the laws, said Monirul.
