Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman has called upon the bankers to develop humane banking coming out of the conventional method to achieve an inclusive economic growth.
“We want to operate banking business making sure that the poor come under banking services,” the governor said while addressing the inaugural session of a five-day-long Banking Fair Bangladesh 2015.
The central bank organised the fair for the first time in Bangladesh on the Bangla Academy premises in a bid to achieve sustainable economic growth by bringing more unbanked people into banking services, said Atiur.
He said the event will help improve relations between banks and customers, plus create a platform of interaction for both.
The inaugural session was, among others, attended by NBR Chairman Nazibur Rahman and Finance Secretary to the Bank and Financial Division of the Finance Ministry, M Aslam Alam.
“Some vicious circles are active in our economy and that is why irregularities are being held in the banking sector,” said Nazibur.
“As a result we could not collect tax properly.”
