Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said Bangladesh as an independent country would be developed with the united efforts of the people of the country and live in the community of nations as a victorious one without seeking blessings from others, state-run news agency BSS reported.
"This country is ours, the soil is ours and people are ours. So, with united efforts of all, Bangladesh would be developed as a prosperous and peaceful country in South Asia and people of Bangladesh would live in the world keeping their heads high," she said.
At the reception organised at Senakunja, Dhaka Cantonment, marking the Bangladesh Armed Forces Day-2015, the prime minister said Bangladesh had earned victory through a War of Liberation under the leadership of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. So, we would live as a victorious nation and we would build our country in this manner.
Bangladesh would be a middle income country much ahead of 2021 and as a developed one by 2041. We would build a golden Bangladesh fulfilling the dream of the Father of the Nation, she said.
Paying her rich tributes to the martyrs and the persons who made immense sacrifice for independence, the prime minister said the countrymen always remember the contributions of our armed forces in the War of Liberation.
The prime minister said Father of the Nation had taken the responsibility of building a war ravaged country. Despite financial constraint Bangabandhu had taken initiative to build smart armed forces side by side rebuilding the national economy.
Bangabandhu founded the foundation of the armed forces of an independent country and he had established the military academy, combined school, training schools and institutions for development of the training and organisational structure of the armed forces. The very existence of the present armed forces of Bangladesh is based on that foundation, she said.
