Khaleda Zia returns Saturday

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is set to return from the United Kingdom on Saturday afternoon, said her counsel Advocate Sanaullah Mia.

While talking to reporters after the hearing of Zia Charitable Trust corruption case, the lawyer said: “The party chief is will fly from Landon by an Emirates Airlines flight on Friday and she is scheduled to reach home by 5pm Saturday.”

Khaleda went to London on September 15 and has since been staying there with her elder son Tarique Rahman.

Regarding the hearing of the graft case, her lawyers said the court fixed November 26 for the next hearing.

The lawyers also said the BNP chairperson will move to the Apex court against a High Court order that rejected her petition challenging legality of trial in the Niko graft case.

Her lawyer AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon told reporters that Khaleda is in bail in the case and she has been asked by the High Court to surrender before the trial court. "Khaleda Zia will appeal against the High Court order after returning home."

On June 18 this year, the HC cleared the way for trying Khaleda Zia in the Niko graft case, by lifting an earlier stay order as well as rejecting a petition by her challenging the legality of the case.

The bench of of Justice MD Nuruzzaman and Justice Zafar Ahmed also directed Khaleda to surrender before a lower court within two months of releasing the full text of the High Court order.

The High Court also asked the lower court concerned to consider granting bail to the BNP chief if she surrenders and does not misuse the bail.
