JS body suggests cancellation of TIB registration

Update : 18 Nov 2015, 10:52 AM

The Standing Committee on the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs has made a recommendation to cancel the registration of Transparency International, Bangladesh (TIB).

The committee's chairman Suranjit Sengupta disclosed it in a press conference held in the Parliament Secretariat on Wednesday.

“We gave the TIB three days deadline to seek apology to the government for its controversial remarks on the present parliament. As the organisation denied to do so, we have been compelled to make the suggestion,” said senior Awami League lawmaker Suranjit.

On October 25, a report by the TIB said the desired effectiveness of the national parliament was under question due to the unprecedented appendage of the so-called opposition party.

Lawmakers from both the ruling alliance and the opposition criticised the TIB demanding an apology from it for its recent report on the effectiveness of the parliament.

Veteran Awami League MP Suranjit Sengupta warned the corruption watchdog saying that failure to apologise to the government within the next three days would result in the organisation’s suspension.
