Dinajpur Kotwali police station SI Biplob Kumar Sarker said three miscreants riding a motorcycle opened fire on Piero in front of the BRTC bus depot at Mirzapur in Dinajpur city around 8am Wednesday.
He was admitted to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.
He is the second Christian priest to be attacked in the country. Earlier on October 5, Luk Sarker, 52, a priest at a local baptist church, was attacked at his home in Ishwardi School Para in Pabna.
Wednesday's incident comes at a time when police are still investigating the recent murders of two foreigners.
On October 3, a Japanese national was shot dead by miscreants in Alutari area under Kawnia upazila of Rangpur.
The IS owned up to both the killings, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors jihadi postings online.
However, it was not confirmed whether the Dinajpur incident has any link with the previous incidents.
