Update : 16 Nov 2015, 07:21 PM

Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain yesterday said necessary actions would be taken for proper preservation of the parliament building after getting the original design of American architect Louis I Kahn.

He told the House that the process to collect all the designs of Louis from the archive of the University of Pennsylvania in America was underway in accordance with a directive of the prime minister.

The Housing and Public Works Ministry has proposed removing the graves of seven distinguished personalities from the parliament complex area as those were not in the original design.

The seven are former president Abdus Sattar, former prime ministers Shah Azizur Rahman and Ataur Rahman Khan, former minister Mashiur Rahman Jadu Mia, Muslim League leader Khan A Sabur, litterateur and journalist Abul Mansur Ahmad, and Tomij Uddin.

Mosharraf said the graves were made at different times according to government directives.

There are also seven establishments in the area that were not in Kahn’s original design.
