The government has decided to detach government colleges from National University and bring them under the affiliation of public universities.
However, the private colleges will remain affiliated with National University, an official of University Grants Commission (UGC) told the Dhaka Tribune Monday.
Before, all the colleges in the country that offer tertiary education used to be affiliated with public universities – namely Dhaka University, Chittagong University, Rajshahi University and Khulna University.
However, after National University was established in 1992, the colleges – both government and private – were brought under its umbrella.
