Hundreds of locals have formed a human chain demanding speedy trial and exemplary punishment of the killers of a 19-year-old housewife.

The victim, Mehetaz Parveen Mou, daughter of late Mojibur Rahman, of Hatem Khan, was allegedly killed after torture for dowry in the city’s Upashahar area on November 10.

Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) organised the human chain at the Zero Point of the city around 11am Sunday.

ASK zonal President Shamim Alam presided over the program where its Investigation Officer Imran Ali, Chief Advisor Harun Ar Rashid, General Secretary Ziaul Islam, Mahila Parishad District Secretary Kalpana Roy, Muktijudder Chetona Bastobayon Monch Secretary Abul Kalam Azad and Freedom Fighter Shahjahan Ali, among others, spoke in the demo.

Mou's mother Moli Begum and brother Mahin Hossain were also present.

Mou's in-laws claimed that she committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling while her family members claimed that she was tortured to death.

Mou’s husband Kazi Anwar Adil Ranju, 42, and his brother Rahul, 15, have been arrested for their alleged involvement with the death.
