Abdul Munim Chowdhury, retired trade marketing director of British American Tobacco, passed away on Thursday in New York. He died of respiratory failure, after surviving cancer twice.
Munim headed marketing for BAT in 12 countries in East and Central Africa after spending two decades working for the company in Bangladesh. He had been educated in New York in the 1960s and it was his second home.
He was the husband of late Zarina Chowdhury, daughter of Dr Zinnur Ahmed Chowdhury, the first Muslim ENT specialist of Bengal. He is survived by three children and two grandchildren, as well as many well-wishers.
Munim’s namaz-e-janaza was held yesterday after Jumma prayers in Jamaica Muslim Centre Mosque in New York, and he was buried next to his wife in Cypress Hills Cemetery.
