Prof Anisuzzaman receives death threat

Update : 10 Nov 2015, 03:53 PM

Dr Anisuzzaman, professor emeritus of Dhaka University, has received a death threat on his mobile phone in the form of a text message.

The former professor of Bangla and also noted secularist writer, filed a general diary with the Gulshan police station around 9pm on Tuesday.

After filing the diary, he told reporters that the SMS came around 4:30pm but he saw it around an hour later.

He also said that the text message was written in flawless English. It criticised him for supporting the bloggers and asked whether he wanted to get killed.

When contacted, Gulshan police station OC Sirajul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that the text message had been sent from an unknown number and police were trying to trace the sender.

This comes on the same day that a platform of secularist writers, professors, cultural activists and journalists, including Prof Anisuzzaman, issued a statement demanding exemplary punishment for those who had recently killed and attacked publishers and bloggers.
