The general inflation rate slightly eased to 6.19% in October, down from 6.24% in September, mostly due to the downtrend in global commodity price, including fuel.
Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said this while releasing the monthly consumer price index after the Ecnec meeting held at the Planning Commission on Tuesday, reported UNB.
The general inflation rate in August was 6.17%.
Apart from downtrend in global prices, winter vegetables also started hitting the market helping check the inflation.
Mustafa Kamal also hoped that the inflation rate would come down in the coming months with the availability of more winter vegetables.
The average year-on-year rate of inflation from November 2014 to October 2015 stood at 6.21%, which was 7.18 percent from November 2013 to October 2014.
Apart from the general inflation rate, both the food and the non-food inflation rate posted a downtrend in October.
The food inflation at the national level stood at 5.89% in October, slightly down from 5.92% in September, while the non-food inflation decreased to 6.67% in October, which was 6.73% in September.
Besides, the general inflation rate in urban and rural areas slightly decreased in October. The general inflation rate at the urban level was 6.91% during the last month against 6.96% point in September, while it was 5.82% in October against 5.86% in September in rural areas.
In urban areas, the food inflation came down to 7.44% in October, down from 7.47% in September. The non-food inflation rate also decreased to 6.33% in October against 6.37% in September.
In rural areas, the food inflation also declined to 5.23% in this October, down from 5.26% compared to the previous month, while the non-food inflation was 6.90% in October against 6.99% in September.
Besides, the national wage index rate witnessed a 7.11% growth in October with 131.70 index, which was 7.20% in September.
