“Bangladesh Music Week,” a two-day festival to be held today and tomorrow at the Shilpakala Academy, will bring together professionals from the “music ecosystem” in Bangladesh and some regional countries on the same platform.
LiveSquare jointly with the Norwegian Embassy and the Concert Norway, the largest communicator of live music of the Norway’s cultural ministry, has organised the festival to establish a regional network of cultural activists and resource personnels.
“We have excellent bilateral relation with Bangladesh and we believe that culture is an agent for exchange and dialogue, and for building an understanding level,” Norwegian Ambassador Merete Lundemo said on Wednesday, while briefing journalists at her residence about the festival.
“This is to share experiences, build capacity and work together,” Nafis Ahmed, managing director of LiveSquare said.
Illustrious musical bands including Shironamhin, Chirkutt, Lalon, Minar, Powesurge, the Brotherhood project and Arshinagar will be performing on stage, while presentations and performances with rare musical instruments by BITA (Bangladesh Institute of Theatre Arts), the Srilankan trio Shakhti, Triratna, among others, will also take place between 4:00pm to 9:00pm everyday.
Ahmed said that the musicians, organisers, sponsors, light and sound specialists, and government had never come together under such a common platform to discuss their issues.
They will share their views in 13 panels that will address issues such as technology, intellectual property (IP) rights, archiving music and media involvement that the music industry often faces.
But the security situation following some recent murders, including that of foreigners, casted a shadow on the programme which is why the organisers had to shelve their plans for outdoor concerts.
“We are organising all our programmes indoor and it’ll be held at Shilpakala Academy,” Ahmed said.
