The police have dismissed the Islamic State's reported claim of responsibility for the attack at a police checkpost in Ashulia that left one constable dead.

Additional Deputy Inspector General of Dhaka range Shafiqul Islam said: “Militant group Islamic State's reported claim for the attack on the police checkpost in Ashulia industrial area is completely false and fabricated.”

The police official, who is also the chief of the three-member probe committee formed over the incident, made the statement while visiting the spot on Thursday afternoon.

Muntasirul Islam, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Media), also trashed the US-based SITE Intelligence Group's report that said the IS has claimed the responsibility for the attack.

He said: "We have received such claims before but could not find the authenticity. However, we are scrutinizing the information regarding the IS claim over the Ashulia killing incident."

SITE Intelligence Group released the report on Wednesday, a few hours after the police constable, Mukul Hossain, was killed in an attack while performing his duty.

Miscreants also hacked four of Mukul's colleagues as the law enforcers stopped a motorcycle for checking. Of the injured, the condition of another constable, Nur-E-Alam, is stated to be serious.

Earlier, Rita Katz, director of SITE Intelligence Group, posted in her official twitter account and the group's web page that IS claimed responsibility for the September 28 murder of Italian citizen Tavella.

Her twitter posts also stated that the IS has claimed the responsibilities for the October 3 killing of Japanese citizen Kunio Hoshi and bomb attack at a Shia gathering on October 24.

But the group never mentioned exactly where and how IS made the claims.

Replying to a query over the Wednesday's Ashulia incident, both the police officials said the police were collecting footage of CCTV cameras installed at the main entrances of garment factories adjacent to the highway for further clue.
