Update : 04 Nov 2015, 07:28 PM

Chittagong University authorities yesterday suspended two students in connection with Monday’s factional clash between two Bangladesh Chhatra League groups which left at least 50 people including four policemen injured.

The suspended students are Mizanur Rahman Khan, student of Management Studies department under 2012-2013 session, and Mofazzel Haidar Hosssain, student of Fine Arts department under 2012-2013 session, said a press release signed by CU Deputy Registrar (information) Farhad Hossain Khan.

CU Proctor Ali Azgar Chowdhury said the decision was taken at the Board of Residence, Health and Disciplinary Committee’s meeting. The students were suspended as the committee found involvement of the two in the factional clash, he added.

Seeking anonymity, an assistant proctor of CU told the Dhaka Tribune that the suspended students were active Chhatra League men and were seen wielding sharp weapons to carry out attacks on their rival Chhatra League men during the clash. Photos of the attack were published on several newspapers the following day, he added.

On Monday, followers of CU unit Chhatra League president and secretary engaged into a fierce clash over fixing a spot to greet admission seekers during a written test of CU admission.

At least 30 Chhatra League men were injured in the clash and Additional Superintendent of Police (sadar) Md Shahidullah, Hathazari police station Officer-in-Charge Md Ismail and two other police constables received critically injuries.

Following the incident, police raided two Chhatra League dormitories and seized two pipe guns and over 100 sharps weapons. They also arrested 38 Chhatra League men and filed three cases accusing 235 activists of the student wing with Hathazari police station.
