Update : 02 Nov 2015, 09:32 AM

The authorities of the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) have shutdown the university for an indefinite period following a factional clash between two groups of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the university administration held on Monday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, three people were injured in a factional clash between two groups of BCL activists over political rivalry.

The injured have been admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

CUET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Jahangir said: “Tension is prevailing on the campus following the clash. So, the university authority decided to close it down to prevent any further violence. It will remain cloased until further announcement."

He said the male students were asked to leave the dormitories by 5pm Monday while the female students will have to leave the halls by 10am Tuesday.
