BCBA in London protests attacks on publishers, bloggers

Update : 02 Nov 2015, 03:58 AM

Bangladesh Community Blog Alliance (BCBA) has organised a rally at Altab Ali Park in London, protesting the murder of Jagriti Prakashani Publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan.

BCBA organised the protest rally in collaboration with Sachalayatan blog and International Crimes Strategy Forum (ICSF) on Sunday.

According to a press release issued by BCBA, they participants of the rally also protested the attack on Shuddhashar Prokashani Publisher Ahmedur Rashid Tutul, writer-blogger Ranadipam Basu and young poet Tareq Rahim.

Participants showed their concern as these attacks were not sporadic incidents but part of a vicious plot to silent free-thinking and to intimidate writers-publishers in the way to promote such an environment of intolerance where the values such as freedom of thoughts, conscience and expression will have no place.

People from diverse background expressed their anger and frustration over government’s failure to come up with a swift mechanism to combat the rapid growing terrorism and the law enforcement agencies' failure to protect writers and bloggers at risk.

The organisers declared to continue with their protest against these atrocities and to challenge the impunity that exists until religious extremism in all forms is eradicated.

Tutul, Ranadipam Basu and Tareq were hacked in Tutul's office in Lalmatia area on Saturday afternoon.

Tutul's publishing house Shuddhashar Prokashani published slain writer-blogger Avijit Roy's book Shunya Theke Mahabishwa. The publisher reportedly received death threat after the brutal murder of Avijit.

A few hours later, Dipan was found dead in the capital's Aziz Supermarket on Saturday evening. Dipan's publishing house also published a book of slain writer-blogger Avijit.
