There should be more playgrounds, parks and gardens in the capital for the proper development of children and flourishment their creativities, said Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury yesterday.
“More open spaces are needed in Dhaka city for the proper growth of children and flourishment of their creativities,” she said.
Dr Shirin, also chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Executive Committee, was addressing the inauguration function of an exhibition titled “Creating an Urban Oasis” at the National Museum in the city, said a Parliament Secretariat handout.
Buet Alumni Association arranged the exhibition with various architectural ideas about how to turn the site of Tejgaon old airport into an urban oasis. Earlier, a competition was arranged among students of different universities in this regard.
Mentioning that Dhaka city faces various problems for lack of proper plans and management, the Speaker said: “It will be possible to make Dhaka a modern and environment-friendly city if we all work together.”
She suggested maintaining coordination among different government agencies concerned to build Dhaka a modern city.
