International congress on AIDS

The International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP) will be held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre from November 20 to 23.

The theme of Dhaka congress is “Be the change towards an AIDS free Generation: Our right to health” which highlights the global and regional needs for achieving an AIDS free generation through science, innovation and community involvement and public private partnership. It is an opportunity to firmly entrench communities’ efforts to promote the game changers with respect to AIDS prevention, treatment, care and support in the Asia Pacific region that will lead to shared vision in the post 2015 agenda and end AIDS by 2030.

The 12th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP12) will bring together over 3,000 delegates from the region. Beyond including foreign policy makers, AIDS experts, teachers, researchers, development activists, AIDS victims and representatives from International NGOs as well as different associate organisations of United Nations will take part in the four day conference.

A view-exchange meeting to review the overall progress in organising the 12th ICAAP was held a city hotel on October 25.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith attended the meeting as the chief guest while Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid and State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malek joined in as special guests.

Moreover, representatives from FBCCI, BGMEA, REHAB, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce, Dhaka Metro Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh Bank Owners Association, Bangladesh Mobile Phone Operators Association, Bangladesh Insurance Owners Association, Bangladesh Pharmaceuticals Association, Private medical College Association, Bangladesh Medial Association and government high officials were present at the progress review meeting.

The meetings were organised by Health and Family Welfare Minister, Mohammad Nasim.
