Update : 27 Oct 2015, 08:37 AM

US can help in the ongoing investigation into the foreigner murders if Bangladesh seeks, a state department spokesperson said.

The spokesperson of US state department, John Kirby, said this when asked about the recent foreigner killings and IS claim of the responsibility at the Daily Press Briefing at Washington DC on Monday.

“There’s an investigation going on right now, if there’s a need to be helpful, we want to be helpful,” said John Kirby.

The state department spokesperson said they were working closely with Bangladesh government and key partners to assess who was responsible for these attacks and to help bring them to justice.

The US considers with concern ISIL’s claim of responsibility for the attack, said the official.

He said: “As we have elsewhere, we take those claims seriously.”

“It’s prudent for us to take ISIL claims seriously.”

When asked about the presence of IS in Bangladesh, he said he had not have anything specific to give you in terms of actual responsibility for it.

“We just let – we need to let the law enforcement agencies there in Bangladesh investigate this and come to their own conclusions.”
