Shykh Seraj wins Gusi Peace Prize 2015

Bangladesh’s iconic development journalist Shykh Seraj has won this year’s Gusi Peace Prize for his exceptional media activism for the past three decades in reducing the country’s poverty.

Shykh, who is also the director and head of news of Impress Telefilm Limited/Channel i, will be officially awarded on November 25 this year at Philippine International Convention Centre, in Manila by the Gusi Peace Prize Foundation.

Barry S Gusi, chair of the Gusi Peace Prize Foundation, described Shykh as a “journalist who gave millions of farmers their voice,” and “a simple, hard-working man with a future vision.”

Shykh Seraj is an international journalist who has worked on all six continents of the globe and has brought new agricultural ideas home to Bangladeshi farmers so that they can put them to work in the fields. He has worked to keep policy makers informed and highlighted technology transfer through media.

He started his media career during the 1970s. He was the most interactive and eloquent presenter of Mati O Manush which aired on Bangladesh Television from 1982 to 1996 and still carries on with Hridoye Mati O Manush since 2004 on Channel i.

Dr Günther Bonn from Austria, former president of Belarus Stanislav Shushkevich, former prime minister of Portugal Antonio Eanes and others have been selected for the prize in different categories including scientific research, medicine, international diplomacy and statesmanship.
