Fire breaks out at Kolkata's South City mall

Update : 04 Dec 2016, 12:27 PM
The blaze originated at the food court on the third floor around 9:15am. Fifteen fire trucks were sent to douse the fire. Two hydraulic ladders were utilised, reports the Daily News and Analysis (DNA). No injuries were reported in the incident. People inside the mall were all evacuated to safety. Disaster Management Group officials were also stationed outside the mall to provide further assistance. Since the entire third floor was engulfed in smoke, the firefighters had to put on oxygen masks while entering the mall. Consequently, the electricity supply was also disconnected in the mall. Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee said: "Prima facie, it seems the fire was caused due to a short circuit." “No one was trapped inside the mall. We are trying to douse the fire as soon as possible," he added.
