Unidentified miscreants have kidnapped three people, including a former local union parishad member, from Eidgarh Dhala area under Ramu upazila in Cox's Bazar district.
The victims are Abu Toyeb, former member of Baishari Union Parishad in Naikkangchhari upazila of Bandarban, and two locals, namely Abu Bakkar Siddique and Shah Alam.
The incident took place early Friday. Later, the gang demanded Tk5 lakh ransom in return for their release.
When asked, Naikkanchhari police station Officer-in-Charge Abul Khair acknowledged the abduction, telling that the unknown kidnappers took away Toyeb, Abu Bakkar and Alam at gun point on a microbus from the area before dawn while they were on their way home from Chittagong.
Local sources said the armed gang comprising of Rohingyas has long been involved in such sort of offences on the border area of Ramu and Naikkangchhari.
Naikkangchhari Upazial Nirbahi Officer Abu Safaiyet confirmed the incident.
He said the figure of ransom demanded by the gang was Tk5 lakh.
