Hearing on review pleas of Mujahid, Salauddin Nov 2

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has set November 2 for holding hearing on the pleas submitted by Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid and BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury pleading to review its order that upheld their death sentences for crimes against humanity.

Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division, set the date on Tuesday to hold the hearing of the pleas before the full bench of the Appellate Division, reports BSS.

The Appellate Division passed the order following two petitions submitted by the state on October 15.

The state on its pleas pleaded to set date for holding hearing on review petitions filed by two death-row-convicts.

Both Mujahid and Salauddin filed their review pleas on October 14.

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) 2 on July 17, 2013, sentenced Mujahid to death. The ICT 1 sentenced Salauddin to death on October 1, 2013.

Mujahid filed an appeal with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on August 12, 2013, and Salauddin lodged appeal against his sentence on October 29, 2013.

On June 16, 2015, the Appellate Division delivered its judgement, upholding death for the Jamaat secretary general. Salauddin too could not escape as the Appellate Division upheld maximum punishment for him on July 29, 2015.

The Apex Court on September 30 released the full verdict of their appeals and on October 1, the ICT 1 issued death warrants against them.
