PM: Help people with disabilities

"People with autism and disabilities in the country have enormous potential and we will have to ensure opportunity for them to flourish those. We are giving the utmost importance for their development as they are our kith and kin as well as children," Sheikh Hasina said The PM made was statement while addressing a function marking the 25th International and 18th National Day for the Persons with Disabilities at Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Saturday, reports UNB. She termed the disability a part of human diversity, saying the disabled children and the people are the integral part of family and society, and national development is not possible keeping them out. The government for the first time has introduced 1% quota system for the disable people in the public service while the figure is 10% in third and fourth grade jobs. Even, an allowance of Tk600 per month is being given to 0.75 million disable persons from the current fiscal year, the PM added. State Minister for Social Welfare Ministry Nuruzzman Ahmed presided over the event while acting secretary of the ministry M Jillar Rahman delivered the welcome speech. The prime minister distributed crests and certificates among the individuals and organisations for their contributions to the society. Later, she enjoyed a cultural programme arranged by physically- and mentally-challenged children. Earlier, she inaugurated a fair of products and goods made by autistic people and physically-challenged people through a video conference, making a call to buy the products. Dhaka North City Corporation hosted the fair.
