A female schoolgirl has been killed in road accident on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Beltali area of Sadar upazila.
Being anguished by the death, locals put up a barricade on the highway for half an hour, creating immense suffering to the commuters. However, the stalemate ended finally in the face of police action.
The victim, Asha, 9, daughter of Alal Uddin, is a class-II student of a Bilarpara Panchimpara Government Primary School.
Sources said Asha died instantly as a speeding truck ran over her on the busy highway on Saturday morning and fled away soon.
When contacted, Kotwali model police station Officer-in-Charge Kamrul Islam confirmed the death.
