LGED engineer blamed for misconduct

Update : 14 Oct 2015, 07:29 PM

Employees of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in Goforgaon upazila of Mymensingh have expressed utter discontent over alleged discourteous behaviour of the Upazila Engineer Tofazzol Hossain.

They fear that if the engineer is not suspended soon, an unpleasant situation may be created following altercation between the two sides.

The activities of the office are largely hampered because of the ongoing tension, they said.

Two additional duty officers listed under the master roll, Ruhul Amin and Shamsul Hoque, were transferred to the Mymensingh LGED yesterday.

“The transfer was made after the two officials expressed their willingness to be transferred. They were not comfortable working with Tofazzol Hossain,” said Mymensingh LGED Executive Engineer Sohrab Ali.

Many other employees of the organisation have expressed same observations and demanded suspension of Tofazzol.

On Monday in a meeting with Sohrab Ali they stated their demand.

Earlier, they had abstained from work for five days to press home the demand.

They alleged that Engineer Tofazzol Hossain had been behaving in an impolite manner with third and fourth grade employees of the office for long. Sometimes he even calls them names over trivial issues which is out of the decorum.

Seeking anonymity, a number of employees said they did not want to work with such an executive and wished to be transferred elsewhere.

When contacted, Goforgaon Deputy Assistant Engineer Monoj Kumar Chowdhury spoke from Tofazzol Hossain’s number and said: “Those involved in the master roll were transferred to Mymensingh LGED office.”

Mymensingh LGED Executive Engineer Sohrab Ali told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday: “Two were withdrawn from their additional duties. Others are under the process of transfer.”
