Seven people, including two women, were killed and 20 others injured in a head-on collision between two buses on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Gokulnagar in Raipura upazila yesterday.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Nurul Amin, in-charge of Bhairab highway police camp, said a Dhaka-bound ‘Chalanbil Paribahan’ bus from Bhairab collided head-on with Kishoreganj-bound ‘Ananya Paribahan’ bus from Dhaka around 4:30pm, leaving three people dead on the spot and 24 others injured.
The injured were taken to Bhairab Hospital where four of them died after admission, he said.
Meanwhile, three youth were killed and one person was injured in separate road mishaps in Chittagong district’s Hathazari upazila and Fatickchari upazilas.
The deceased were identified as Md Millat, 30, a truck helper, son of lateYusuf of Laxmipur, Md Roman, 24, son of Nur Hossen hailing from Chandpur and Md Tamim, 25, of Fatickchari.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) (investigation) Salauddin Chowdhury said a bricks laden truck overturned on the road after the driver losing its control over the steering at Dhonnagar-Sujanagor area of Hathazari in the early hours of the morning,
In another accident, Tamim was killed when the motorbike carrying the youth turned turtle at Kalarpul area under Gohira union Raozan.
The youth along with his friends took part a bike racing while he was critically injured overturned his bike at around 1:30pm, said Nayek Jahangir Alam of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Police Outpost.
He was taken to CMCH where the on duty doctors declared him dead, said Nayek Jahangir adding that he said the injured Misu, 20, was admitted at CMCH causality ward.
