A man has strangled his wife for dowry in the district's Boraigram upazila Tuesday.
Following the murder, the police arrested the husband, Kazol Kumar Sarker,24, son of Susen Kumar Sarker, of village Kalikapur of Baraigram upazila.
The deceased is Mina Rani Paul, 18, daughter of Sadananda Paul, of village Sahebganj-Paulpara under Naogaon's Atrai police station.
SI Doyal Chandra Banarjee, Banpara police camp in-charge, told the Dhaka Tribune: “Kazol often locked in an altercation with Mina over dowry. On Monday night, they again engaged in an altercation when Kazol demeaned Tk200,000 as dowry from Mina's family members.
“At one stage of argument, Kazol strangled Mina.”
Being informed, a team of police rushed to the spot and recovered the body of the victim, said the official.
Mina's father lodged a case in this connection on Monday night.
