A man has been murdered as two groups of villagers locked in fatal clash over a trivial matter in Ashuganj upazila of the district.
The victim is Nurul Amin, 40, from Bagoir village in the upazila.
Besides, at least 50 people got injured in the fierce clash that ensued around 6am on Tuesday and remained continued for about three and a half hours. The injured were admitted to the local health complex and the district hospital.
Sources said a woman from Bahoir village had demanded borrowed money from a man from nearby Khriala village a week ago and centring the matter, a scuffle erupted among the dwellers on Monday afternoon.
As sequel to the incident, villagers from both sides equipped with lethal weapons attacked one another in the morning, leaving Nurul Amin dead on the spot.
Being informed, local police rushed to the spot and managed to quell the clashing villagers.
Confirming the incident Ashuganj police station Officer-in-Charge Selim Uddin said they deployed additional policemen on both villages to prevent the repeatation of any untoward incident.
