People of Kishoreganj, including different socio-political organisations, freedom fighters and martyred families will observe Boroitola Mass Killing Day recalling the barbaric act of the Pakistan occupation forces.
On October 13, 1971, at least 365 innocent people of Bhubirchar, Gobindapur, Tilaknathpur, Karial, Kalikabari, Shehora, Dampara and Chiknirchar villages of Jashudal union in Sadar upazila were tortured to death by Pakistan army and their collaborators.
The Pakistani hyenas put the innocent people in several rows near the rail line at Boroitala (present name Shahid Nagar) in Jashudal union and killed them following a rumour by the local razakers that the villagers killed two army men.
Later, the hyenas buried some of the martyrs in a mass grave in the area and threw many bodies into the Narsunda River. Then, the occupation forces torched and looted hundreds of houses of the locality.
Boroitola was renamed as Shahid Nagar after independence and a memorial of martyrs was built on the spot.
The day’s programme will begin with placing of wreaths at the memorial where a discussion will be held.
Every year, thousands of people throng the memorial place to remember martyrs.
