Five alleged members of banned Islamic militant group Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) including its Pabna chief have been arrested over the murder attempt on Priest Luke Sarkar of Ishwardi in Pabna.
The detainees were identified as JMB Pabna regional chief Rakibul Islam Rabbi alias Rakib, Ziaur Rahman, , Shariful Islam Tuli, Md Alim and Md Amzad Hossain.
Pabna Police Super Alamgir Kabir made the disclosure in a press briefing held at 11:30am on Monday.
They were held during a crackdown through Pabna district in the last few days in a bid to arrest the protagonist of the priest murder attempt, said Kabir.
Police sources also claimed that huge amount of jihadi books were seized from their possession during arrest.
On October 5, Priestr Luke Sarkar was attacked by unidentified youths who tried to slit his throat at his house in Pabna.
