At least seven people have been killed and three others injured when a rice-laden truck plunged into a roadside ditch in the district's Mirsarai upazila.
The deceased are day labourers Kalam Mia, 45, Rubel, 25, Saidur Rahman, 40, Tipu, 45, Monir Uddin, 45, Md Alam, 30, and Azad, 25.
SI Farid Uddin, In-Charge of Jorarganj Highway police outpost, said: “The incident took place on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway near Jorarganj area around 5am Monday as the driver lost his control over the steering.
“On information, a team of police rushed in and recovered the bodies of the seven day labourers and seized the truck. However, the driver and the helper of the truck fled the scene.”
A case has been filed in this connection.
