Medical admission protesters seek public support

Update : 11 Oct 2015, 08:27 PM

Agitating medical and dental college admission seekers are seeking the support of people of all walks of life to make their mass gathering, set to be held today, a success.

The students distributed leaflets at different educational institutions and on some streets in the capital seeking support for the gathering to be held today at the Central Shaheed Minar from 10am.

The students will observe the gathering with three-point demands: To retake the medical admission test for 2015-16, arrest the culprits behind the question paper leak and put them on trial, and also put on trial the police officers who attacked the demonstrators.

“This is not a movement for medical students alone; it is a movement against immorality. Our teams went to colleges, universities, medical and dental colleges yesterday to talk with students and seek their attendance at the gathering” said Salman Siddique, a convener of the platform “Medical Admission-seeking Students-Parents.”

It was learnt that medical students from different districts, including Barisal, Mymensingh, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna, began coming to Dhaka to support the programme, and demonstrations will be held in different districts by local medical students and their parents.

After the mass gathering, a team of students will meet with the health minister to talk about the progress. Details of this meeting will be disclosed later at a press briefing, said Siddique.

Meanwhile, the protestors held a gathering with students, teachers and guardians from educational institutions across the country at the Central Shaheed Minar to press home their demands yesterday.

The MBBS and BDS admission seekers have been demonstrating since the admission tests were held on September 19. Terming the admission tests fake, they said the question papers of the combined admission tests for the country’s medical and dental colleges had been leaked.
