Update : 10 Oct 2015, 07:13 PM

Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman has been selected as the Central Bank Governor of the Year 2015 for Asia for his contribution to the successful maintenance of macroeconomic stability in the country.

Emerging Markets, a London-based prestigious financial information provider, announced his name as an awardee on Saturday in recognition of his role in promoting socially responsible financing, financing inclusiveness and green funding, said a press release Bangladesh Bank issued yesterday.

This award went to Raghuram Rajan, Governor, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), last year and Chinese Central Bank Governor Zhou Xiaochuan the year before.

The Emerging Markets is a unique source of news, analysis and commentary on economic policy, international economics and global financial markets, with a special focus on the emerging world.

Earlier on January 5 last year, Financial Times-owned magazine, The Banker, selected BB Governor Atiur as the recipient of the Best Central Bank Governor Award 2015 from the Asia Pacific region.

The Best Central Bank Governor award 2015 for Asia-Pacific, a vast region that is now the major engine powering global growth, is a strong affirmation of his positive vision-driven proactive innovative approach to central banking.

In November last year, the Bangladesh Bank governor received the “GUSI Peace Prize International 2014 Award”.

Atiur Rahman also received the prestigious “Indira Gandhi Gold Plaque for 2011” for his contribution to international cooperation towards human progress.
