Update : 10 Oct 2015, 07:02 PM

National Board of Revenue in a report recommended the customs authorities taking legal actions against a man who imported a luxury car dodging taxes.

The report said the accused Belayat Hossain, residing in the capital’s upmarket Dhanmondi area, imported a Mercedes-Benz car at an approximate cost of Tk5 crore but didn’t pay Tk34.62 lakh as customs duties.

The sedan car was imported under the cover of fabrics products in 2009 through Benapole land port by a company named Gold Tex.

Later, the customs intelligence revealed the facts after investigation which also found that Belayat had the car’s registration done with Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation submitting a fake bill of entry.

The customs intelligence filed a case against Belayat with Dhanmondi Thana on April 3 this year. Then his house was raided by customs intelligence with the help of Rapid Action Battalion and seized the seven-year old car with number Dhaka Metro GA-14-9738.
