Rajshahi Development Authority (RDA) has formulated a 20-year master plan aims at ensuring a planned development in the city and its adjacent areas during the stipulated time.
Around 364 square kilometers areas of two adjacent municipalities and 12 Union Parishads were included in the mega plan, said Prof Bazlur Rahman, Chairman of RDA.
He said the main goal of RDA is city planning and also to ensure planned growth and development of the metropolis. Just after establishment in 1978, the authority has started to prepare its first master plan for 20 years. The plan was finalized and started to implement from 1984 for the area of 127 square kilometers.
After invalidation of the first master plan, RDA has prepared a new master plan named Rajshahi Metropolitan Development Plan (RMDP).
During preparation of this plan for the first time in Bangladesh, RDA has used modern planning techniques and tools like GPS, Total Station, RTK, GIS software.
A detailed socio-economic, transport and physical feature survey along with contour and RL record were done. All of the collected data and information was preserved as a data bank in digital format.
"We are very much optimistic about doing various other better works under the present master plan", said Prof Rahman. In an effort to make the plan a total success, RDA held a coordination meeting with other relevant organisations and public representatives yesterday.
Executive Engineer of Rajshahi City Corporation Golam Murshed and its research officer Mahbubur Rahman, Puthirya Upazila Chairman Anwarul Islam, Naowhata Pourasava Mayor Shafiqul Islam, Darshanpara UP Chairman Ramjan Ali, Haripur UP Chairman Nazrul Islam, Harian UP Chairman Mofidul Islam, Sardaha UP Chairman Hasanuzzaman Madhu and Huzripara UP Chairman Golam Mostofa were present at the meeting.
